Presentation

An architect, writer, painter and sculptor, Le Corbusier coined the phrases ‘machine for living’ and ‘machine for emotion’ to describe his vision of the ideal home. The Villa Savoye is the most accomplished example of this: a manifesto for a new way of living, it bears witness to his enthusiasm for technical and functional progress whilst remaining committed to sensory experiences. Pupils explore this ‘machine’: they examine its influences, its modernity in comparison with other architectural styles, as well as its legacy and current influence.
